He has also written a biography of his Great-Great-Grandfather Captain William Goodwin Dana, recipient of the Mexican land grant.

Heritage and Legacy - The Historic Dana Adobe 


Joe Dana is an educator with the Orcutt Union School District who currently is principal of Olga Reed School in Los Alamos.  Joe also is a fifth-generation California resident whose great-great-grandfather, Captain William Goodwin Dana, was the recipient of a Mexican land grant on the Central Coast.  Joe has written a biography of Captain Dana and also has been actively involved in the restoration of the Dana Adobe in Nipomo.  In his talk at Casa Dumetz, Joe will discuss the life of his great-great-grandfather, local historical sites that pertain to Captain Dana, and the pleasures of researching one’s own family history.

About JOE DANA:
·      Bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley
·      Master’s degree in school leadership from the University of LaVerne
·      In 24th year with Orcutt Union School District; has been a teacher, vice-principal, and principal; currently is director of charter programs
·      Author of the book ‘To Discourage Me Is No Easy Matter’:  The Life of California Pioneer William Goodwin Dana
·      Former president of the board of directors of the Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos
