Please join us this Friday at Babi's Tasting Room at 6:00 pm when Valerie Gangas, author, speaker, life coach and owner of Wanderlust Living in Chicago, Ill., will make an exclusive trip to Los Alamos to share her life experiences and transformation with Transcendental Meditation. We first met Valerie at Casa Dumetz Wines in December after she and her friends finished a successful day of skydiving in Lompoc and were celebrating their friendship with us. Their spirits were buoyant and bright and we needed to get them back! And we finally did!

About Valerie Gangas:
Valerie Gangas has her B.A. in Religious Studies from DePaul University focusing on spirituality around the globe.

I want what this girl has – these were Oprah’s words after Valerie spoke about the revolutionary effects Transcendental Meditation had in her life. A thirteen year sleeping disorder & a deep depression after her mother’s death, followed by a fateful encounter with a friend, spawned her initial foray into Transcendental Meditation. How does one transcend a dark night of the soul? Magic, she says. Upon hearing her speak, you’ll have the urge to pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of wine & dive headfirst into a bottle of whatever she’s having. Away you’ll go, swaddled in grace, your eyes opened to the radical awareness that you do, indeed, already have, what this girl has. Join her on February 1st as she shares her story of how prayer, a touch of magic & Transcendental Meditation saved her life. Abracadabra! Welcome to Wonderlust Living!

Valerie worked with Oprah Winfrey & her employees at Harpo studios after Oprah invited TM instructors to teach her staff the technique. Valerie was on hand to speak to new meditators, before & after beginning their meditation practice. She also led group meditations twice a day for the company.
She actively speaks at universities, colleges & hospitals around the Chicago land area. Including, Loyola University Medical Center, Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago & Joliet Junior College.

For fun, she likes to take long road trips with her sidekick & loyal dog, Frida (named after the artist), fly airplanes, jump out of them & spend time with good friends. All the while eating great meals with wonderful bottles of Casa Dumetz’s Gravitas Grenache.

Please join us this Friday at Babi's Tasting Room at 6:00 pm when Dawn Peters, owner and sweets wizard of Decadence: Fine Cakes and Confections will share her experiences in baking and how to create the perfect sweet treat for your loved one. Or at least how to order the most delicious cakes from her! She has been baking for brides and grooms, young and old, birthdays, all-day treats, and every celebration in between at her bakery in Buellton for more than ten years. Bitten by the sweet fairy when she was a wee child, she left her work as a forester to pursue her dream. We will have treats to share!

Bring Plenty of BAKING QUESTIONS! DAWN IS THE ONE TO ASK! Want to know how to get a perfectly flaky pie crust? Crispy cookies? Chewy ones? Delicious chocolatey fudge cake? Champagne filling? How do you make buttery-rich scones? Gluten-free? NO PROBLEM for Dawn!
About Dawn Peters:
Dawn has been actively baking since she was 6 years old. Baking her way through the Fanny Farmer Baking Book at the age of 16, she never imagined baking would be her profession. Then in 1995 she made the change and enrolled in the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. That was it. She interned at Sur La Table where she met her idol Julia Child who gave her this advice: Be Helpful. A few years later she met Julia again, who gave her even better advice: Only apply at the very best places, learn everything you can and after two years, move on.

Dawn worked at the Phoenician in Arizona, Alisal Ranch, The San Ysidro Ranch - and was given another golden nugget of information - wedding cakes for the Santa Ynez Valley! With the help of Women's Economic Ventures (WEC) Dawn was given the tools and confidence to open her own bakery.

Dawn bakes everything she can get her hands on! She makes blueberry preserves and jams for Restoration Oaks, cookies and scones for Bell Street Farms and wine pairing cookies for us here at Casa Dumetz!
For more information please visit the Decadence: Fine Cakes and Confections website.

Please join us this Friday at Babi's Tasting Room at 6:00 pm when Licensed Master Falconer Vahe Alaverdian, owner for Falcon Force, will share his experiences over the last 29 years of falconry work. Live birds will be present during the discussion.
About Vahe Alaverdian:
Vahe' Alaverdian is a Master falconer with 29 years of experience handling and training raptors. His passion for the sport of falconry started at the age of seven with a Eurasian Kestrel. He has been exploring the globe to study different methods of falconry in various cultures. His keen knowledge of wildlife, habitat and animal behavior, in conjunction with his acute falconry experience, allows him to assess and approach each situation, and apply proper falconry based bird abatement techniques best suited for the situation.
Falcon Force is dedicated to providing traditional falconry methods to control nuisance birds at vineyards, crop fields, airports, and landfills. "Falconry based bird abatement" is the use of trained falcons and hawks to intimidate and scare off nuisance birds which cause loss of revenue for crop growers, health hazards in landfills, and safety concerns in airfields. Very often the presence of the raptor is enough to deter and intimidate the prey species. It's a natural predator and prey relationship that evolution has programmed them to avoid.

Historically, everything from Mylar tape, netting, scarecrows, horns, propane cannons, flares, screamers, bird bombs, shotguns and poisons have been used, but yet the birds find ways to adapt to these inferior methods. Falconry based bird abatement is quiet, discrete, organic, eco-friendly and very sustainable. The objective is not killing the nuisance birds, but scaring them off the premises.
Falcon Force is the marriage of a very deep passion for the ancient art of falconry coupled with the practical use of raptors for bird abatement in a modern day landscape.
For more information please visit the FALCON FORCE website.
