"Piles of Horseshit" With Laurel Roberts, composting expert from  Monty Roberts Flag is Up Farms (Who knew it could be so sexy?) Monty Roberts Flag is Up Farms is a world renowned equine training facility. They have a special manure composting system for their equine waste, that is used by local vineyards and agriculturalists.   Flag is Up Farms has been producing compost since 2009 with their special aerated “hot" composting system. The way they produce compost is vastly different than the variety of conventional methods other horse farms use. They have built a special treatment system on cement slabs, which pumps air into the bottom of the pile of raw ingredients through 6” pipes. This aerates the pile from the bottom up and allows for aerobic decomposition processes to occur, removing the risk for harmful bugs surviving during the process and keeping good bacteria and fungus that soils need. They seal the top of the pile using water and tarps, to increase the pressure and heat components, which fosters a faster and more thorough composting process than the windrow method other purveyors use.  JOIN US at 6 pm!  And bring plenty of questions!
