Join us at Babi's Tasting Room where Joan Adams, maiden name Joan Olsen, was a young 18-year old woman from Elk Grove, California, who made a tremendous impact in becoming the first female air force cadet. She was the first woman to enter any of the military service academies. In so doing, she changed the face of the academies forever - and heard from hundreds of people around the country on how they felt about her mission - both positive and negative.

Joan will share her experiences and her perspectives on making those decisions - both from the viewpoint of a young woman radically making a change in a radically changing world and from an adult woman today 35 years later. She will also discuss the excitement and anxiety of her first day and the media coverage that ensued, the life of an air force cadet, the ins and outs of basic training and the wisdom she learned that has guided her through the rest of her career - and life.
